A symbol of hard work and long-lasting traditions, the barn has long been a steady staple in the great American landscape. And drive through the rural plains of northern Missouri and you just might come across this barn-style home — designed to pay tribute to the history of the Midwest.

“This house was based on our Great Plains Gambrel plan, created to harken back to the barn you would have seen hundreds of years ago in this area,” says Cody Wortman, marketing director at Timberlyne in Wayne, Nebraska. “It’s definitely a rustic barn-style plan that’s become incredibly popular in recent years.”

Built for a businessman and his family as a weekend retreat, the 10,000-square-foot home covers four stories (including a basement) and features nine bedrooms, sevens bathrooms and three full kitchens, making it the perfect getaway for entertaining and for making people feel welcome and comfortable, says Wortman. “It was built on their family farm and is frequently used as a gathering place for family and friends. It was important to the owner to create a place for everyone to stay when they came to visit.”

But despite the over-the-top size and amenities, the structure of the home is the real standout feature. “The Gambrel barn style is very iconic and eye catching. It’s unique in its roofline and is such a grand home that it catches people’s attention from the exterior. Then, once they see the inside, they’re instantly wowed by the openness and rustic appeal.
