At Cask 307, the beauty of white oak is on full display, and not just in the barrels of the award-winning regional wine. Overhead, massive white oak timbers form an elegant timber frame, which shelters a wide-open space for visitors to sample some of Ohio’s best wines.
Built by OakBridge Timber Framing, the structure gives the winery an undeniably inviting atmosphere. But the benefits aren’t just aesthetic.
“The atmosphere is very inviting. It’s very open-air and it brings nature into the facility itself,” explains Tony Debevc, the owner of Cask 307. “But also, the fresh air lends to good aromatics for smelling and tasting the wine.”
Large, hangar-style doors open up to the sprawling porch where visitors can take in the pastoral views with a glass of vino and charcuterie board. Johnny Miller, the owner of OakBridge, says that indoor-outdoor connection is all part of the design.
“The whole outside comes in. You’re sitting inside, but it’s like sitting outside,” he says. “The timbers and beams bring such a warmth to the room. It’s authentic and just so fitting.”
Ready to plan your visit? Tony reports the prettiest time of year to visit is September to October: “When harvest begins in the area for grapes, it’s the most aromatic time of the year and the forest has the most color.”
That being said, every season has something special to offer. Visit during the quietest time of year, November through March, to take advantage of intimate events like wine tastings and opera nights at Cask 307. Year-round, there’s no shortage of entertainment in the area from fishing and hiking to live music and more wineries. No matter what you choose, you’re in for a special experience.
“Coming to the Grand River Valley is about relaxation,” says Tony. “The experience here is about the finer things in life: enjoying your friends and having some good wine, food and entertainment.”
