Michael drafted the 7,800-square-foot plan, which, despite its imposing size, feels incredibly cozy. Part of that feeling can be attributed to the home’s 8-by-12-inch Douglas fir timbers fashioned into impressive king-post trusses. The warmth of the walnut-toned stain combined with the way the timbers visually lower the ceiling impart a snug sensation while remaining open and airy.
The chef’s kitchen could be a case study in how to design the most utilized room in a house. Two-toned shaker cabinetry, gourmet-grade appliances and white quartz countertops are as practical as they are beautiful. Two separate pantries store dry goods, small appliances and supplies.
But the master suite — the bathroom in particular — is the home’s showstopper. Italian marble tile, crystal chandeliers and custom cabinetry come together to make an elegant, spa-like retreat.
The basement level is a haven of fun and relaxation, currently featuring a bar, a home gym and a theater with a 120-inch screen, with space to include a wine cellar, game room and safe room down the line.
Outside, a deep covered patio is protected by a heavy-timber-trussed roof and boasts a stacked-stone wood-burning fireplace. A hot tub rounds out the al fresco relaxation station, but there are plans to add an array of additional outdoor living areas.
It’s hard to imagine that a home this enchanting could get any better.
