For this rustic mountain ranch, Jennifer Chipman, co-founder and principal designer of Bond Design Company, a nationwide design firm headquartered in Park City, Utah, found inspiration in two unusual places: historic industrial buildings and vintage speakeasies.

The result is an award-winning property, and its kitchen is the centerpiece. It’s got a warm, somewhat masculine aesthetic that gets its nuance from the design’s details.

  1. A 48-inch Platinum Series BlueStar range features both stainless steel and copper finishes that tie in the mixed metals used throughout the space. It’s a classic beauty, but no one is prepared for the showstopping, industrial ventilation system, custom fabricated from stainless steel by Magleby Construction.

  2. Forget the typical backsplash — from floor to ceiling, every wall is ensconced in “Boston Mill Mod” brick veneer from Beehive Brick.

  3. Reclaimed wood was used to construct both the cabinets and the ceiling, adding another layer of texture to the rich space.

  4. The floor is European Oak Kenyon, a new material with a distinctly aged and authentic feel.

  5. Against the deep browns and weathered reds that dominate the room, the gleam of the Earthshine steel pendants from Currey & Company makes a statement.

  6. The barn doors are more than a pretty face with a rustic spirit. The left door leads to the pantry and the right, the entry stairwell.

  7. The counters — leathered Capolavoro quartzite — solidify the kitchen’s sturdy, masculine vibe.
